Religion and Health Benefits

Of course, you are thinking, I would/should be writing about something like this!  But guess what….I got this from an article  by L.J. Polintan “Thank God for Health…”   published in the International Business Times

His article talks about various studies that show the following links:

**the more time spent in church, the lower one’s blood pressure

** the religiously active are healthier than those who are not religiously active.

** The Washington Post reports that Mormons live longer than the average life expectancy (9-12 years) due to their religious observances and healthy lifestyle choices

** College students involved in campus ministries visit doctors less and cope more effectively with stress

**Praying and spirituality are linked to better health, less stress, greater sense of well-being and a superior ability to handle stress.

I have found the connection of spirituality to health most effective in my life.  Church has played a big part in supporting me to reap this health benefit.

One year I made a  great New Year’s Resolution:  forget the ‘church’ of the gym, the ‘church’ of the Sunday New York Times and the lure of Sunday sleep-ins.  Start finding ways to thank God for health.  Spending time in a place of worship was the start!
